Imagine being a learner and having every resource and connection at your fingertips. For students in Northwest ISD, this concept is a reality. As of April 2019, NISD has over 29,000 devices currently distributed to our students.
1:World represents the ratio of one learner to a world of information, resources, and creative potential. In a district that understands the value of technology in the classroom as a means to elevate and enhance teaching and learning, this program capitalizes on preparing our students to be Future Ready.
1:World is not about limiting a students to a single device; rather, it is about giving students access to the right device as the right time. At the elementary level students are provided a Chromebook device in their classroom, with students in grades K-2 at a 2:1 ratio and students in grades 3-5 at a 1:1 ratio. Elementary students also have access to campus devices such as iPads or Windows devices for specialized use. At the secondary level, students have 24/7 access to a district issued Chromebook device or can elect to bring a device of choice. Specific courses and academies also have access to specialized devices based on curricular needs.
Our educators and district leaders understand that leveraging technology, both in the classroom and at home, provides the opportunity for students to become progressively active learners, problem-solvers, and creative thinkers. Through 1:World, Northwest ISD aims to unite all of our stakeholders in a partnership supporting the advancement of student achievement.
